Rest Day at Enkhuizen 0, total 99
(although we walked about 20!)
After our first day on the bike, we decided to have a day off. Whilst you might that we are a bunch of lazy gits, we were keen to check out the Zuiderzee Museum. We are woken early by Curlews who are so loud they could be signing out their cry right next to our tent.
We decide it must be time to up-an-at-em and it's off to the museum we go. There were two parts, one inside, one outside. The inside one was interesting, although the display notes were mostly in Dutch which was not much good to us (although we are learning some basics). The outdoor museum was incredible. They have recreated life in the 1600-1700's by moving a lot of buildings from all around the Netherlands to the site. There is about 160 in all. My favourite was the cheese drying shop, where they would have to turn all the cheese daily and oil them. Mmmm, I am in heaven!
There was also some examples of the Dutch life including their transport - I imagine the steering would be a bit front heavy. The whole museum was incredibly authentic - hats off to the Dutch!
For dinner we make zucchini and ham risotto. One of our favourite dishes at home, however with out being able to read the labels on packets the meal has a dutch twist. I'm not sure what we added, we end up with a much richer version. Only later we discover we actually used cream instead of evaporated milk - whoops.
We plan tomorrow's trip, a ferry ride in the morning and then on to St Nicolaasga. Right now, it's off to bed and yet another night with out seeing a star in The Netherlands...
